Southbridge Rehabilitation & Health Care Center was recently named the Blue Award Recipient for 2019 from the New England Nursing Home Quality Innovation Network. They received this award through their work reducing the number of antibiotics being used in the center.

“We are honored and appreciative for being recognized for providing quality care and taking advanced steps to reduce antibiotic use in our center,” stated Augustine Aigousatile, the center’s administrator during the award ceremony on June 13, 2019 at the Chapin Street center.

This award came about when the center began implementing a program to lessen the use of antibiotics for their short-term patients and long-term residents. When a patient or resident displayed symptoms, nurses would implement a new assessment in conjunction with their medical team, before starting an antibiotic. They center held monthly calls with The Quality Improvement Organization to report back their findings.
